Tomb Raider: Underworld

Level 1: Prologue

First, you'll go through a brief training level for this little adventure.

Cutscene: We see a big explosion at Croft Manor, leaving Lady Croft trapped in the burning rubble. Head straight ahead but be careful when you approach any fires, as Lara will suffer severe damage. Continue on down the hallway, take a right and vault up onto the blocks. Go straight forward and at the end of the corridor, jump up to grab the edge. Pull yourself up. Now climb the steps and locate the electrical box. Pull the lever to open a door. Enter what remains of Lara's bedroom.

Carefully move forward. Avoid the flames at all cost. Crawl under the collapsed wall you see. Now grab the edge of the block on your right and pull up. Ahead, locate a closed door with a yawning door knob. Try to steer clear of it, then throw your grapple to catch the ring and pull. The door then explodes with a backdraft.

Now leave the room through the corridor and pick up a health pack you see on the ground. See the ledge running along the wall? Jump to grab it. Now shimmy to the left until the end. Jump up to grab the upper ledge and move along to the left once again. When you reach the end, drop down to grab the lower ledge. Now shimmy to the left and look behind you. See the part of the floor that hasn't collapsed? Jump back to land on it.

Find the brown (movable) box on the right. Push it against the wall. Vault onto it, then jump up to grab the ledge. Shimmy right until you come to the end. Now perform a jump to the right to avoid the fire and head forward.

Rocks tumble as the floor collapses, taking the door out with it. Now perform a running jump to reach the door. Climb onto the balcony. Go to the left until you reach the burning stairs. Locate the golden ring above them. Use your grapple to catch it. Jump/swing to pass the flames and jump again to reach the other side. Now head to the right and find a broken part in the railings. Hang from that broken edge and safety drop.

Cutscene: Lara walks towards Winston and Zip. Zip points a gun at Lady Croft. Winston tries to stop him.

Winston: "It's Lara!"

Zip: "I know..."

Zip fires again, Lara screams "Wait!" and the scene fades out.

Level 2: Mediterranean Sea

An opening scene shows Lara’s boat floating on the Mediterranean Sea. She hears a beeping sound and climbs down into the cabin below to activate her laptop computer (to speak with Zip and Alister, via satellite uplink). Lara says she hasn’t made much progress, yet she believe’s that she is close to finding the entrance to Avalon. Alister warns her not to lose perspective. After all, the odds of finding her mother still alive (after all these years) are very remote indeed. Lara knows that he’s right, but her heart tells her otherwise.

Go to the stern (rear of the boat), dive into the water and swim down. Do away with some sharks on your way to the sea bed below. The most efficient weapon to use here is the spear gun.

Note that the jellyfish are lighting places of interest here. Take care and don’t get too close of them though, as they can cause Lara some damage. Upon reaching the ocean floor, turn to face the biggest structure and locate the entrance on the ground. Swim toward the larger peak. There is a cave at the base that you can enter. Before swimming into the large peak ahead, go after Treasure #1. Swim toward the smaller peak. Locate a small building half buried in the sand. You'll find a hidden entrance, .... obscured by seaweed. The treasure you seek is lying in an alcove inside. Follow the hallway to the right and find a handle on a small pedestal. Grab it and find your way out of the building.

Head back to the pavement and go inside the temple until you reach a dead-end. Three ornate circles are carved into the wall. First of all, note that each one of them is made of three carvings. Two have closed eyes, .... and one opened one.

Place the handle you found earlier into one of the circles, and collect the second handle on the floor. Slide it into the last circle. Now, you are facing your first puzzle of the game. The three opened eyes need to converge into the ornate circle of the middle. Pull one handle after the other to achieve this, triggering an ancient mechanism that will open the door.

Swim along the tunnel, turn right, then left, then right again. You'll reach what seems to be a dead end again, but when you inch closer, a giant tentacle retreats and clears the way. Swim forward to access a vertical pit and head to the surface.

Swim to a small outcropping above the water, then jump up onto the ground. Vault onto the rock on your left and pull up to step on the higher one. Get down to the other side and jump into the water. Go up the ascent on the left to reach the ground. Locate the next ascent on your right and go up again.

Now jump on the block on your left, then jump up again to grab the ledge above. Shimmy to the right, along the wall and around the next pillar. Jump up, grab the upper ledge and shimmy to the right again. At the end, look behind and locate an horizontal pole. You can either swing around it or pull up and step on it. Either way, jump forward to reach the next ledge, shimmy to the right and turn around the corner.

Drop down (twice) and carefully land on the ground. Head right to a switch on a pedestal. When you pull it, nothing happens. You'll see sparks in the two recesses, but the mechanism is stuck as both the fires aren't lit.

Make a mental note of the two pressure plates in front of the switch. You'll have to lower them at the same time to be able to light the fires. Collect a small rock on the floor and place it on the left plate. Repeat the operation to keep the plate down.

On the other side, find the golden ring decorating the snake statue. Grapple it and pull down the statue to lower the second plate. Now, get on the pedestal and pull the switch. The door opens. The cutscene shows Lara holding a camera and entering an ancient cave. Looking at the engravings, she discovers Proto-Norse runes mentioning "the world of mists", which would be Niflheim, the Norse realm of the dead.

Follow down the hallway and turn right. Climb the block, step on the upper block and jump forward. Hop down to the ground, ascend the stairs and crawl under the structure. Carefully drop down in the pit and locate a small entrance in the wall. Follow this tunnel until you reach another room. Drop down to the ground, then climb up onto the block on the right. Perform a jump on the left and stand on the platform. Grab the edge of the stairs and pull up. Go up the stairs and head to the big entrance in front of you.

In the next cutscene, Lara enters a huge hall, but the platform she's about to step on is destroyed by a giant tentacle. Looking down, Lara discovers that the tentacle belongs to a kraken. The kraken is a creature from Norse mythology. The monster is now blocking the door opening to the rest of the temple so you need to get rid of it. Unfortunately, bullets or spears won't kill it.

From the entrance, turn right and grab the small edge on the wall. Shimmy right then perform a jump to the right to grab the next one. Repeat the operation twice then drop down into the hallway. Follow the corridor but do not slide down the slope. Instead, grab a small ledge on the left, shimmy to the right and perform a jump to the right to reach the next ledge. Repeat the operation until you reach a doorway.

You are now on a platform above the kraken. Looking to your right, you'll see that one of its tentacles is coiled around a pillar. Locate the three vertical poles in front of you and jump forward to grab the first one. Climb it, turn around a bit so you'll be turning your back to the second pole. Make sure you're in the right alignment : if you fail this jump, you will fall in the pool at the bottom of this area. Jump from the pole to grab the next one. Climb up, turn around and jump again to reach the third pole. Repeat the operation to reach the ledge on the pillar. Do not worry about the tentacle for now.

Notice the platform on the right and the horizontal pole behind it. Shimmy as far as you can to the right and pull up. You're still controlling Lara, but time is slowing down. Jump to grab the horizontal pole before the platform collapses.

You can either stand on the pole or swing around it. Either way, jump to reach the right bridge. Head right and enter the two story room. You will see a switch that seems trapped by a tentacle. Hang from the edge on the left and shimmy to the right. At the end, jump to grab the horizontal pole and swing around it. Then jump and slide down the slope until you reach the ground.

On your left, locate a golden ring. Use you grapple to pull it. This causes the pillar to collapse and the kraken retracts its tentacle. Make your way back to the switch by climbing the blocks, sliding the slope and swinging around the horizontal pole. Pull down the switch. The right bridge moves away from the golden disk.

Head back to the kraken room. You have to reach the left bridge. Turn around the head of the statue and locate a small ledge on the wall. Jump to grab it, then jump up twice. Shimmy to the left until the end and drop down twice to grab the lower ledge. Either drop down or jump left to reach the platform with the switch. You can try to pull it, but you'll see that the golden platform is still stuck because of the second bridge.

Locate the ledge running along the wall on your left and jump to reach it. Shimmy to the left, turn around the corner and jump backwards to reach the arm of the statue. Make your way to the bridge and enter the small room. The switch is stuck here as well. If you look behind the tentacle, you will see a cog with a golden ring on the wall. Throw your grapple to catch it and pull the cog. Activate the switch. The kraken now retracts its tentacle and the left bridge is moving away from the golden platform.

Make your way back to the central switch above the kraken and pull it down. This raises the platform and the camera shows you two fragmentary rings in the chains holding it. Shoot one ring then the other to release the golden platform.

In the next short scene, a platform smashes the kraken, killing it and freeing the door. Locate a golden ring on the left of the platform, catch it will the grapple and rope down to the ground. Pull the switch to open the door then follow the hallway. Go up the stairs and head forward until you reach a dark pit. Climb the wall on your left, then head right until you reach the other side. Follow the corridor and go up the stairs until you reach the second pit. You have to traverse the beam but be careful. If Lara loses her balance, you have to stop moving until she regains it. Head forward and crawl under the collapsed blocks. Enter the next room and head towards the closed gate.

In this cutscene, Lara discovers a monumental statue of Thor, the Norse God of Thunder and a strange gauntlet shimmering on a small pedestal. She remembers that medieval manuscripts allege that Thor needed two gauntlets to hold his legendary hammer, Mjolnir.

Look left and right and locate the two pressure plates on the ground. Then head right, walk towards the vertical pole and climb on it. Jump to reach the small entrance in the wall and carefully drop down in the next room. Grab a small rock and step on the pressure plate, facing the door. Launch the rock through the doorway (use the Grenade button). Repeat the operation with the second small rock.

Now step on the pressure plate, head forward and roll to get out of the room before the door shuts down. Stack the two small rocks on a pressure plate then face the gate and locate the golden ring. Use your grapple to catch it and move to step on the other pressure plate. You will notice the grapple line can wrap around obstacles and the hook won’t detach. When the two pressure plates are down, the gate is unlocked. Use your grapple to pull the ring and make the gate fall. Enter the room.

The next cut scene shows Lara entering the gauntlet room. While the gauntlet turns into dust when Lara touches it, a small artifact casting blue light remains. As Lara takes it and places it on her left hand, the stone projects a halo with the shape of a gauntlet around it. While she understands the connection between this place and the legend of Thor, Lara still doesn’t see why her father thought that this place was related to Avalon.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t have time to investigate! A squad of mercenaries are standing behind, aiming at her. At the command of their leader, Lara puts her hands on her head and turns around. Before she even understands that neither weapons nor bribery will help, she's knocked out. When she recovers, she realizes that she doesn’t have the artifact or ammo for her guns. Before blowing up the way out, the last mercenary tells her that Amanda Evert sends her regards.

Head out of the gauntlet room to the room with the pressure plates. Enter the room on the right and vault on the dark rock fallen on the ground. Climb up and follow the tunnel until you reach a room with vertical poles. Grab the first one on the right and climb up. Then jump to reach the broken one hanging from the ceiling. Climb it as high as you can and jump to reach the platform. Head left and locate the top of a pole in front of you. Jump forward to perch on it then jump again to grab the vertical pole hanging from the ceiling. Jump onto the broken platform.

Locate the broken pole on your right and jump to grab that one. Climb up, then carefully jump to perch on the top of the pole behind. Jump forward to reach the last pole and finally jump to the tunnel. Follow the corridor and crawl under the collapsed rocks.

When you enter the kraken room, a short cut scene will show you the mercenary running away. On the platform, head to the right and locate a golden ring on the ceiling. Use your grapple to catch it. Swing and jump to reach the other side. Head left, vault on the lower block and grab the small ledge. Shimmy to the left and jump up then pull up to stand on the upper platform. Head forward, jump to grab the horizontal pole and swing around it. Jump to the next platform, head right and slide down the slope. Carefully hang from the edge and drop down to the doorway.

Go to the hallway and go back to where you came from at the beginning of the level. Follow the corridor, go down the stairs until you reach a small pit. Don't drop down. Look left and locate a small ledge on the wall. Grab it and jump up to reach the upper one. Shimmy to the right, jump to the right to pass the crevice and shimmy right some more. At the end, drop down twice to grab the lower ledge. Shimmy right, turn around the corners and crawl under the collapsed structure.

Go down the stairs and turn around the corner. Vault on the rock on the left, climb up to the upper one and jump forward. Carefully drop down from the platform and follow the hallway back to the room with the fire mechanism. Jump into the water and step on the small outcrop. Go through the doorway, climb up the rocks and pass a second doorway. Dive into the water and find your way back outside the temple (remember that the jellyfish are showing the way). Once out of the temple, swim up to the surface and get back to Lara’s yacht.

Level 3: Coastal Thailand

Head for the rear of the yacht and dive into the water once again. Swim toward the cliff and explore the bottom of the lagoon. You'll find three sharks circling. You can either avoid them, or kill them with your pistols (of course, you could also detonate them with a sticky grenade).

When you're through playing with the sharks, swim to the cliff and locate a small ledge where you can climb out. Go toward the wall and start climbing. Head up and left, over to the edge of a stone structure. Now jump back to reach a narrow ledge on the opposite wall. Pull up and go left, hugging the wall along your way. Locate the outcropping and the entrance in the cliff. Jump forward to reach it. Quickly kill the four spiders that head for Lara.

Simply follow along the path and slide down the slope. Jump and grab the horizontal pole. You can either swing or pull up. Stand on the pole for a few seconds to find your balance then jump forward and grab the crevice. Jump up to grab the next ledge and pull up. Head down the path and take care of three spiders on the outcropping. Locate a ledge on your left, grab it and jump up to reach the narrow ledge above. Pull up and notice another ledge in front of you. Press jump to reach it, then jump again to grab the upper ledge. Pull yourself up.

Carefully walk along the edge, finding your way between the plants and the rocks. Follow the path on the right until you reach a small pit. Use the Grapple to catch the golden ring above. You could also try launching the grapple while you’re standing on the ground and start climbing up the rope. Either way, swing and jump forward. Now follow the narrow passage on the left. Crawl under the rock to reach a room where you see a structure and four pillars.

Head between the second left pillar and the wall and perform a wall-jump. To perform this, jump toward the pillar and immediately press Jump when you hit it. Keep repeating this to climb up to the space between the walls and grab the ledge on the pillar. Traverse to the left and jump left to reach the next pillar’s ledge. Jump up to grab the upper ledge, then look behind and locate what appears to be some ornamental framing, or an "epistyle" running along the wall.

Jump and grab the epistyle/framing. Shimmy to the right until you reach the end. Jump to reach the crevice on the pillar behind you. Traverse to the right and jump up, then left to grab the ledge and shimmy to the left all the way to the end. Jump up and shimmy to the right. Pull up. Run towards the temple and make a mental note of the stairs and the doorway in front of you. Watch the six pillars in front of the temple and jump to grab the ledge on the left one. Jump up and shimmy right, then jump backwards and grab the ledge on the right pillar. Traverse to the left, drop down and grab the horizontal pole.

Now turn to the right and face the next pole. Press forward to swing toward it. Jump to grab it. Remember, if Lara loses her grip youll have to immediately press the "Interact" key/button. Swing again and jump forward to grab the opposite ledge running along the wall. Shimmy to the right end. Look behind to locate a crevice on the pillar and jump to grab it. Turn around the pillar and maneuvre to the left. Jump while pressing left to catch the horizontal pole. Traverse to the left pillar and drop down to grab the crevice, then drop down again to land on a block. Follow the river to the right.

Dispense with the three tigers that attack from the bushes. You can shoot them from a safe place, but don’t step on the lower blocks (where they can follow you). Your best bet is to reach the architectural structure on the left and to jump on the beam. Once the tigers are dead, get on the beam and traverse to the right. (If Lara loses her balance, you have to completely stop moving to regain it.) Jump up to grab the ledge and shimmy to the left. Turn around the corner, then look behind to locate a small ledge and jump to reach it. Walk towards the pillar and jump up to grab the ledge. Shimmy to the right and turn around the corner.

Here comes a tough one. You have to reach the upper ledge on this same pillar by using the wall-jump. Jump to the pillar behind you, then press "Jump" as soon as you hit it. Keep repeating this to climb up (you have to jump four times to reach the upper ledge). Shimmy to the right and drop down to the beam. Traverse it, then jump forward to reach the top of the next pillar. Jump from there to grab the edge.

Head back to the steps and head forward, then crawl under the giant root on the left. Hang from the edge and shimmy to the left. Jump over the plant blocking the way, pull up and crawl again under the root. Dispense with three tigers and head to the doorway. Follow the hallway until you reach a deep pit. Walk carefully to the edge and take care of seven bats attacking you. Jump on the small beam and walk towards the end. Locate the ledge on the wall and jump forward to grab it. Traverse to the right and, once on the pillar, look behind and jump to grab the ledge in front of you. Move to the left, drop down to grab the lower ledge, then grab the beam and pull up. Walk until you reach the end and jump forward to reach the next beam. Jump left, grab the edge and pull up to crawl under the small stone structure.

Follow along the corridor and take care of two spiders you find. Go up the stairs and carefully drop into a small pit. Run forward, kill the six spiders that will eventually jump on you and turn left. Vault on the small block, grab the edge and pull up. Go to the left corner, jump to the wall and jump immediately to grab the beam behind you. Walk on the beam, then jump to the right on the narrow ledge. Jump forward twice, then grab the horizontal pole, swing and jump. Take the stairs.

A cut scene: Lara enters the courtyard of the temple of Shiva. She takes out her camera and deciphers some Sanskrit inscriptions on a pillar. Lara recognizes that the place is related to Bhogavati, one of the Hindu underworlds. According to ancient legend, it is guarded by the Nagas, ...... the Snake-Men.

Make your way across the wooden platform and pull the lever. The two ropes holding the platform will appear jammed. When you're facing the courtyard, take the left corridor to the end, crawl under a stone structure and hang from an edge. Climb down to the ground and get rid of four bats attacking you. Now locate the ledge running along the right wall and grab it. Shimmy to the right until the end, then jump right to grab the ledge and shimmy to the right. Turn around the corner, then start climbing the wall to pass the broken part.

Head to the right, then hang from the edge once again and shimmy to the right. After the corner, pull up and stand on the narrow ledge. Hugging the wall, jump forward and immediately jump again. Grab the edge and pull up. On the platform, locate the golden ring on the mechanism and use your grapple to catch it. Pull the grapple to untie the rope, freeing one side of the wooden platform.

Go the your right, hang from the edge and drop down on the platform from earlier. Follow the path and locate the golden ring on the ceiling. Use the Grapple to catch it and traverse to the other side. Crawl under the stone structure. Find one pole on the floor and locate the pillar with a vacant hole. Put the pole in it, then pull up and stand on the pole. Notice the ledge on the nearby pillar and jump to grab it. Shimmy to the right and jump right to catch the next one, then jump again to grab the ledge on the wall. Start climbing and reach the upper ledge.

Look behind and jump to land on top of the pillar. Jump forward to reach the next pillar, then turn left and locate a small beam coming from the pillar. Jump on it and hang from the beam to reach the ledge on the pillar. Turn around the corner and jump backwards to reach the platform. On the left, jump up and grab the horizontal pole. Move near the wall. Use the Interact button to pull the pole from the wall and free the second side of the wooden platform.

Get back to the wooden platform. Jump back to the ledge on the pillar you came from, turn around the corner and step on the beam. Jump to reach the top of the pillar and locate the ledge on the wall in front of you. Jump forward and grab it. Then pull up, crawl under the stone structure and follow the hallway until you reach the wooden platform.

Pull the lever. See the golden ring on the wall? While the platform collapses, Lara has only a few seconds to launch the grapple and catch it. Then rope yourself down to reach the courtyard and walk toward the statue. Three green "nagas" (snake men) and two red nagas will attack you. You need to be fast! The red ones will charge, while the green ones will spit harmful venom.

Once they're dead, take one of the two entrances and head down the stairs. You'll reach a pit in front of a statue with a golden ring. Use your grapple once again to catch the ring and rope down into the pit.

During this next cut scene, Lara surmises that the architecture of the underground remnants is different from the courtyard, yet similar to the ruins of the Mediterranean temple.

See that small ledge on the wall, in the middle of the corridor? Grab it and jump up twice to reach the upper one. Shimmy to the left, pass the corner and look to the left to locate a small beam on the other side. Jump to the left to grab it, then shimmy until the left end. Pull up to step on it and locate a parallel beam on the other side. Jump to reach it and hang from the edge. Shimmy to the right end and pull up to stand on the beam. Jump to the beam on the other side, shimmy left and pull up at the end. Jump to reach the platform.

Hang from the edge of this platform, shimmy to the left then drop down twice to reach the ground. Go up the stairs to reach a courtyard. Be very careful here, as the place is full of nagas, bats and spiders, so do not run everywhere at once. Get rid of four bats that attack you. Now go down the stairs on the right and get rid of two red nagas and one green naga.

Head back to the stairs (where you came from) and start climbing the wall from the landing. Pull up and turn around the stone structure. Jump up to reach the beam and pull up. Then jump up again and grab the small ledge. Look right and locate a small ledge running along the wall. Jump onto it, then move right, hugging the wall. In front of you, notice the platform on top of the stone structure and jump to grab the edge. Pull up and kill six more bats. To the right, there’s a small mechanism on top of the next structure. Jump to grab the edge and pull up. Approach the mechanism and collect a gem. The mechanism revolves and one of the gates behind it opens.

Go back to the courtyard and head toward the opposite structure holding a similar mechanism. Go to the right and start climbing the wall as high as you can. Locate the climbing wall on the right and jump to reach it, then move to the right until you reach a platform with a pavement. Kill a red naga, a green naga and four bats that will attack you, then head forward between two walls and perform a wall jump. Reach a narrow ledge and pull up to step on it. Jump forward to reach the opposite platform.

Face the second structure (with a mechanism) and hang from the ledge of the platform. Shimmy to the left, then move back to get rid of the two red nagas that will try to make you fall. Hang from the ledge again and shimmy left. Jump left to get to the other side. Jump to grab the ledge on the stone structure, then jump up and shimmy right. Turn around the corner, jump up twice and stand on the small platform.

Find the golden ring above the alcove with the mechanism and use your grapple to catch it. Then jump and climb up the rope. Collect a second gem. The mechanism now revolves and the second gate opens. Grapple the golden ring of the mechanism and make your way down to the courtyard. Go up the stairs from where you came at the beginning and climb the wall again. Turn around the rock, jump to step on the beam and jump up to grab the ledge. Shimmy to the right and jump right to reach the narrow ledge. Move right, hugging the wall, then jump forward to get on the small platform. Jump to reach the alcove with the first mechanism and use your grapple to get down to the doorway.

Head forward and use the grapple to catch the golden ring and pass the pit. Follow the hallway until you notice a horizontal pole on the left wall. Grab it and stand on it. Jump up to grab the upper ledge and shimmy to the left. Jump left and catch the edge. Jump up to step on the platform. Notice the two horizontal poles on the right, jump and swing successively to reach the last platform. Use the grapple to catch the golden ring on the engraving in front of you and rope down.

A tiger and a bat attack! Vault up onto the small rock in front of the entrance, then jump up and grab the ledge. Shimmy to the left, pull up and jump forward to perch on top of a pillar. Turn right, jump onto the next pillar and turn right again. Jump to reach the edge on the architectural structure and shimmy to the left end. Drop down and pull up to walk on the narrow ledge. Head right and perform a wall jump to reach the upper platform.

Get rid of four bats and head forward. Notice that one of the edges isn't broken? Hang from the left end and drop down to grab the lower ledge. Shimmy to the right until you reach a broken beam. Turn to the right and jump forward to grab a ledge. Shimmy to the left, drop down once to grab the lower ledge and look behind. Jump to reach the beam, walk until the end and jump onto the next broken beam. Jump to perch on top of a pillar, then jump forward to hand from a ledge. Shimmy to the left and jump left to grab the next one, then repeat the operation. Jump up to hang from an horizontal pole. Swing and jump to reach the narrow ledge. Step on it and jump up twice. Now pull up and walk on the platform.

Find a long ledge running along the wall in front of you and jump to grab it. Shimmy to the right end, then jump to the right and pull up to reach a platform with four pillars. Run to the corner and step on the narrow ledge. Jump left to grab the ledge on the pillar and shimmy to the right. Pull up and traverse the beam. Get rid of the six bats attacking you, then grab the upper ledge and turn around. Jump from there to perch on top of a pillar, then jump forward to reach the next pillar’s ledge. Traverse to the right and pull up to stand on the small beam. Jump forward to reach the doorway.

Follow the corridor until you reach a deep pit. Jump left to grab the first ledge and jump right to grab the second one. Drop down on the beam and jump onto the next one. Walk until the end and jump forward to gab the crevice in the wall. Shimmy to the right and jump up to grab the horizontal pole. Swing around it and jump to the next pole then to the last one.

Now take the stairs into a room on the left of the huge statue of Shiva. Dispense with two green nagas running around and head to the terrace near the statue. There’s a statue holding two elevators. Jump on the higher elevator. It will lower and trigger a mechanism, lowering Shiva’s arm. Jump back on the platform, go up the stairs on the right. Get rid of a green naga and six bats, the follow the stairs until you reach the hand of the statue. Put one of the gems in the metallic circle. Go back downstairs and jump onto the other elevator. It will lower down and the arm of Shiva will move back to its place. It will cast a ray of light into the courtyard.

Go down into the courtyard. Approach the space where a balustrade is broken. Locate a movable pole with a golden ring. Use your grapple to pull it down. Look to the other side and find the exact same pole. Rope down until you reach the ground. Kill a green naga that attacks and get closer to the wall facing the one you just climbed down. Use your grapple to catch the right golden ring up high and climb up the rope. You’re now standing near a statue with the same mechanism as the first one, but one elevator is missing. Locate the cage near the wall and pull it until it’s close to the elevator.

Vault onto the platform, head to the hallway on the right and kill two red nagas. Go up the stairs and kill a green naga. Locate a small ledge on a pillar on the left and grab it. Jump up to reach the horizontal pole. Swing, jump and grab the next one, then the last one and hang from it until the arm of the statue is completely down. Then drop down and move the cage under the elevator. This way you"ll block the mechanism and Shiva’s arm will remain down. Go up the stairs and put the second gem onto the second hand's metallic circle. Head back to the cage and remove it from under the elevator. The second arm of Shiva elevates and casts another ray of light into the courtyard.

Make your way back down to the courtyard. Take the first movable statue and move it around the circle. Traverse the diameter and move the statue toward Shiva’s statue until the mirror on its hand catches the ray of light and reflects it The light casts it on the crystal. Move the second movable statue and catch the second ray of light with its fan. When the rays touch the crystal and go through it, they’re cast on Kali’s gem. This triggers a mechanism. The ground lowers itself, revealing a new entrance.

Now head through the doorway and reach a small courtyard. Find a statue with a golden ring in front of you. Catch the ring with your grapple and pull the statue down. It will break the ground and reveal a deep pit. Shoot the ten spiders running out of the pit.

Hang from the edge here and locate the lower ledges. Drop down twice to reach the last ledge. See the golden ring on the ceiling? Let go and immediately launch the grapple to catch the ring. Swing with the rope and jump forward to land on the ground. Approach the carved gate.

Another cutscene. Lara approaches the large gate. The stone in her back-pack starts to glow. She takes it, puts it on her hand and places her hand on the gate. The engravings on the gate start glowing, and she realizes that she can move the entire stone gate by herself. Perhaps it was the source of Thor's god-like strength.

Notice that some structures are shining with a blue glow when you approach them, as is the gate? To grab them and move them around, use the "Interact" key/button. Open the gate with the power of the gauntlet and head forward. Shoot ten spiders and run forward towards the tree.

This next cut scene shows Norse remnants underneath the Shiva temple. Nothing remains on the pedestal. The gauntlet, which was supposedly there, is now gone. Looking at the walls, Lara notices an ancient engraved map that has been recently destroyed. According to the runes, the map led to Thor’s belt and hammer. Turning around, Lara inches closer to the pedestal and makes a rather peculiar discovery! The initials “RJC” have been carved into the stone, along with information about the gaunlet. “RJC” stands for Richard James Croft, ....... Lara’s father! But he never used his middle name, to avoid confusion with his own father. With this clue, Lara understands where her father hid the gauntlet. She decides to head back home.

Now hang from the edge and drop down six times to grab the lower ledges and reach a broken platform. Grab the wall and move it as far to the right as possible. Jump up to reach the pedestal again. Go on the bridge and hang from the left edge. You will notice a golden ring on the wall. Drop down and immediately launch the grapple to catch the ring.

Lara has to, once again, perform a wall run to reach the other side. To do so, place the camera on her back and hit "back" and "forward" until she runs on the wall. Let her take some speed then jump forward to reach the platform under the bridge. Go near the bridge and grab it with the gauntlet. Pull the structure along the platform until you reach the last recess between two pillars (one of the pillars has mushrooms). Place the structure so Lara will be able to turn around and reach the other side. Pull the structure to end of the platform.

Look up. See the other golden ring on this side of the bridge? Grapple it and perform a wall run to reach the small platform at the center. Head forward and jump to reach the next platform. Grab the wall and move to the right again. The bridge is now in place and Lara can access the exit. Jump up until you reach the bridge. Shoot twelve bats flying around. Traverse the bridge.

In a brief cutscene, Lara discovers that the power of the gauntlet is drained. She wonders how Thor was charging the artifact.

Walk near the water and kill four spiders that attack Lara. See the golden ring above the water on the right wall? The next move can be a bit frustrating. Jump and catch the ring with the grapple while you’re in the air. Climb up the rope and start a wall run. When you’re at the end of the run (when Lara is about to swing back), hit "Jump" and "Left" so she will land on the platform behind her.

Locate a small ledge in the left corner. Jump to grab it and jump up to reach the upper one. Shimmy to the left and jump left to hang from a movable horizontal pole. This triggers the opening of an underwater door. Dive into the water and go through the door. Follow the underwater tunnel until you reach a closed gate. Pull the switch. The gate opens and reveals a small cavern. Head forward and out of the cavern. Then swim to the surface. Now head back to Lara’s yacht.

The final cutscene of this level shows Lady Croft stepping back onto her boat. Talking with Zip and Alister, she mentions that she didn’t find the gauntlet, and that her father destroyed the map. This makes Alister smile. Lara explains that she knows where her father hid the gauntlet, and that it's right under their nose!

"Protected By The Dead"

Follow along the passage until you reach a vertical pole. Climb it, get up on top of it, then jump forward. Go straight ahead until you reach the scaffolding on top of a crypt. Shoot the bats that fly toward Lara and hang from the edge. Drop down. See the beam on the left? Hang from the left corner of the platform and drop down to land safely on the beam. Traverse it and jump up to grab the edge of the upper beam. Shimmy over to the left and drop down on a parallel beam. Traverse it, drop down to reach the lower platform, then drop down on the ground.

Shoot a few spiders that come running toward Lara. Find that same scaffolding on the right of the room. Climb it. From the top beam, jump over to reach the top of a balcony that is a bit broken. Jump forward to grab a horizontal pole and stand on it. Jump forward to grab a second pole. Next, swing and jump to reach the final one. Jump over to reach the corridor and kill some more spiders. On the left, notice the mechanism and the two stained glass windows.

Head down the stairs, kill four spiders along the way. In the next corridor, turn to the left and follow the hallway. More spiders attack, so dispatch them. Now, follow the hallway until you come to a closed gate. Step on a pressure plate you find on the ground. This elevates the gate. Go back, pick up the small rock in the corridor and leave it on the pressure plate. Unfortunately, one rock isn’t going to do the trick. Follow the corridor into the huge hall with the mechanism, the wooden gate and the two stained-glass windows. Grab the small rock on your left. Now, stack this on the pressure plate! The gate will remain open.

Go back to the hall with the mechanism and head to the opposite corridor (forward). Get rid of the spiders running around and pick up the small rock. Follow the hallway to the pressure plate. When the gate opens, throw the small rock through the doorway (use the "Grenade" button here). Be sure the rock is on the other side of the gate. Now head back to the corridor and follow it toward the mechanism room. Don't go in there yet.

First, turn left and go up the stairs in the hallway. Kill two bats and grab a fourth small rock upstairs. Now make your way back to the pressure plate. Throw the block through the doorway. Head back to the room with the huge statue. Grab the small rocks you threw and stack them on the pressure plate behind the statue. This triggers a mechanism lighting fires in the other room. Go back to the room with the stained-glass windows and watch. Each one represents an angel. See how the angels are shining, when the rest of the window isn’t? But their outline isn’t quite perfect.

Grasp the mechanism under the door and try to rotate it. The door looks as if it's jammed! Face the central structure and notice the four levers. Pull the first one on the right. You'll see the light change around the angel on the right window. Repeat the operation and you'll see that the angel is now perfectly surrounded by shadow.

Go to the opposite lever (turn around) and pull it down three times. The second window will be lit, and the door is now free. Grab the mechanism under the door and rotate it until the door is completely open. You have to be quick here, as a timer starts.

Quickly run to the big pillar behind the structure (between the two gates). On the right side, jump to grab a small ledge, then jump up four times to make your up. Traverse over to the right, jump up. Pull up to step on to the pillar. See the golden ring on the ceiling? Catch it with your grapple, but make sure you’re in the right alignment with the door. Jump and swing over to reach the entrance. Dispense with the six spiders that run to you and follow the hallway. Head up the stairs.

In this cutscene, Lara winds up in some type of cabinet. She finds the second gauntlet on a desk, along with a tape recorder. Activating it, she hears the voice of her father explaining the situation. Richard Croft brought many things from Coastal Thailand, ....... including two thralls, whose cages are broken. Among other things, Lara’s father also kept a picture of the map to Avalon!

Two thralls try to attack Lara. Kill them! But, how do you kill the undead? With a lot of bullets and a little jumping. Shoot a thrall until it collapses under the bullets. Once the creature is on the ground, approach it and use the "Interact" button to give it one final shot.

Now find the movable pillar. Grab it and place it behind the next, ..... over by a broken pillar. Step on the narrow ledge of the latter, then jump forward to step on the movable pillar. Jump again to reach the top of the broken pillar. Locate the small beam on the left and jump to reach it. Hang from it. Shimmy over to the right until you reach the beam on the other side. Pull up to step on this one. Notice the ledge on the next pillar hanging from the ceiling? Go to it. Shimmy to the right end, until you’re back at the exit. Jump to reach the tunnel.

Another cutscene begins. As soon as Lara exits the room, she realizes that the gauntlet is drained. As was the first one when she left Thailand.

Head forward in the passage until you reach an electrical box. Activate it to make the panel of the wall slide.

A cutscene repeats the one of the very beginning of the game. Something explodes, and the manor is again on fire.

Move ahead, but be careful when you approach the fires as Lara will incur damage. Follow the hallway, turn right and vault up onto the blocks. Continue forward. At the end of the corridor, jump up to grab the edge. Pull up. Climb the steps and locate the electrical box. Pull the lever to open a door. Enter what remains of Lara's bedroom. Carefully walk forward (avoiding the flames), and crawl under the collapsed wall you see. Grab the edge of the block on your right and pull up.

Find (in front of you) the closed door with a yawning door knob. Keep clear of it, and throw your grapple to catch the ring and pull. The door explodes with a backdraft! Exit the room through the corridor.

Locate the ledge running along the wall. Jump to grab it. Shimmy to the left until you reach the end. Now jump up to grab the upper ledge and move to the left once again. At the end, drop down to grab the lower ledge, shimmy left and look behind you. Notice a part of the floor that hasn't collapsed? Jump back to land on it!

Find a brown movable box on the right. Push it against the wall. Vault onto it, then jump up to grab the ledge and shimmy right until the end. Perform a jump to the right to safely pass the fire and (carefully) head forward.

A few rocks will tumble and the floor will collapse, taking the door with it. Perform a running jump to get over to the door and climb onto the balcony. Head to the left until you reach the burning stairs. See the golden ring above them? Use your grapple to catch it. Jump and swing to pass the flames, then jump again to reach the other side. Head to the right and notice a broken part in the railings. Hang from that broken edge and carefully drop down.

A brief cutscene. Lara walks toward Winston and Zip, and Zip points a gun at Lara. He tries to shoot her. Winston attempts to stop him. Winston: "It's Lara!" Zip: "I know..." He fires again. When Zip needs to reload, Lara bursts in and tells him to drop his gun. He tells Lara that someone looking a lot like her was in the manor earlier and stole Amanda’s stone. Lara tells Zip and Winston to get out of the house before the roof collapses and decides to take a look at the security logs.

Go to the fireplace and grab the ledge on the right pillar. Pull up to step on it. Jump up twice. Once you grab the ledge running under the large picture, shimmy over to the right until you reach the balcony. Head right and face the lounge. Find the horizontal pole and perform a jump to reach it. Now approach the glass wall and jump up to grab the metallic beam. Pull up and drop down on the other side.

Level 5: Southern Mexico

As a cutscene unfolds, heavy rain comes down in Mexico. Lara arrives at the ruins of a Mayan temple.

Lara will have the motorbike for the most part, and you'll need it to complete this level. You might want to take a few moments to get used to the controls. Remember that the rain will make the walls and ledges a bit slippery. Go forward and up the stairs. Follow the path. Traverse a passage and jump over the pit. Drive up the ramp until you reach the first building.

A brief cutscene shows a golden ring inside one of the chambers. Leave the motorbike behind for now and head over to the building. Climb up on the broken pillar and jump forward to reach the ledge on the second pillar. Now jump up to grab the upper one and traverse over to the left. At the end, jump left and pull up to step on the ledge of the wall. Jump up and head left until you reach a small entrance.

See the golden ring? Use your grapple! Before pulling the grapple rope, step back until you're standing on the ledge. Now pull the rope and make your way down along the wall. Lara’s weight will keep the ring near the entrance. The small gate in the wall will remain open.

Lara will need to perform a small wall run here. Now head through the doorway before it closes. Pick up a jaguar head on a pedestal. The gate is closed so you'll need another way out. Head left between the walls and perform a wall-jump to reach the next landing. Hang from the edge of the exit. Jump backward to reach a broken beam. Walk toward the pillar, then drop down to reach the ground.

Two panthers run toward you. Kill them if you must. Then jump back on your bike. Head to the right and follow the path. Traverse a tunnel, go up the stairs and head forward until you reach a second building. Leave the motorbike behind again and crawl under the door.

In this cutscene, Lara discovers a Mayan calendar that represents the "Unnamed Days", ....... the days during which the gates of the underworld will open.

Go over and place the jaguar head on the central statue, then grab the mechanism behind it. Turn the statue and see how it makes the disks turn on the ground. The first and the fourth disks are already aligned. Turn the statue until the third circle is on the right alignment as well. Now let go of the pole and grab the pedestal you see with a golden crane on it. Turn it a few steps. Notice that the fourth circle is no longer in the alignment. But that doesn’t matter for now. Grab the pole behind the statue again and rotate it until the second circle is on the alignment. Leave the pole and grab the pedestal again. Turn it around until the fourth circle is in place.

Once all four circles are in place, the mechanism in the courtyard is triggered. Look across to the other side of the courtyard. See similar balcony with a the same calendar? Get back to your motorbike. Shoot the two panthers in front of the temple. Get on the bike and drive along the right pathway. You'lll need to build up some speed to jump over a pit ahead. Keep left to pass the next one via a lateral ramp. Continue along the path and drive through an arch. You'll find a crossroad. On the right, is the courtyard of the temple. On the left, you'll see another arch. The path continues ahead of you. Turn left and drive through the arch until you come upon some rocks blocking your way. Leave the bike behind and climb up the rocks. Go through the passage. Head forward until you hear gunfire. Watch the scene from a distance. A couple of panthers attack four poachers and kill them. Let them fight. After the panthers are dead, go down the stairs and kill the poachers.

Head for the building. There you'll find a pole on the floor near the stairs, on the right. Take it and approach the building. Place the pole in the first pillar on the left. Pull up and jump up to grab the upper ledge. Traverse over to the left, jump up and then jump left to grab the second pillar. Traverse to the left again and jump backward to climb the wall. Climb to the right and jump backward to land on the beam. Traverse the beam and jump to your right to reach the ledge of the next pillar. Shimmy to the left and pull up. Find the next beam on your left. Jump to reach it and hang from the edge. Shimmy left and pull up. Jump forward on the next beam, then jump up and turn around the corner to the ledge. Drop down. More gymnastics ahead. Catch the horizontal pole, then the upper one. Jump forward to grab a third pole. Stand on this one. Perform a wall jump against the pillar to reach the upper level. Head left and find a golden ring on the floor. Grapple it and rope down to the ground. Traverse this room and locate the broken plate on the ground.

Run under the arch and climb up thanks to the blocks. Now place Lara in front of the golden ring on the other side. Launch the grapple to catch it and walk to the right. You'll notice again here that the grapple rope can wrap around objects. Pull on the rope to make a huge rock fall on the ground and break the plate!

Shoot the four bats that come flying at you. Make your way back near the pit. Find the place where the pavement is broken and hang from there. Drop down to grab the lower ledge. Drop down again to reach the wall. Now climb down and jump backwards to grab a vertical pole. Slide down to the ground. Climb up the block and pick up the jaguar head. Kill the spiders running around and get down to the ground.

Face the alcove and grab the vertical pole to the right. Climb up and perch on it. Then jump forward and grab the ledge. Jump up to grab the upper ledge, then jump left and shimmy to the left. Drop down to grab the wall and climb to the left. Jump left to grab the vertical pole and climb up. Turn around and jump backwards to reach the wall. Climb up, then jump up to reach the ledge. Shimmy to the left, jump left and immediately press the "Interact" button (otherwise Lara will lose her grip). Jump up and get out of the pit.

Locate a small gap in the wall and jump to reach it. Kill the poachers (three of them) and make your way back to the motorbike. Drive back to the crossroad you met earlier. This time turn left and follow the path until you reach a building. Kill the two goons there and the panther guarding it.

Approach the closed gate near the stairs and locate a small hole in the wall. Pull the square rock under it and pick up the pole on the ground. Put the pole into the hole. This will trigger the opening of the gate, but a rock is in the way. Pull it a little so the pole will be able to go down the entire distance. Then hang from the pole until it’s down, let go and quickly run through the doorway before the gate closes.

Use the jaguar head on the fourth circle. Place the four circles in the right alignment/sequence, just as you did for the first calendar. This triggers the opening of a gate in the courtyard. This is timed! You have just forty-five seconds to reach the entrance before the gate closes. (If you fail, you'll have to position the circles of the first calendar again, not the second.) Head back to the bike and drive as fast as you can to the stairs leading to the courtyard (on your left). Go down and drive right through the open gate.

In this cutscene, Lara brakes and stops just a few inches from a pit filled with spikes. Leaving the motorbike, she notices some Mayan hieroglyphs on the wall, ...... they mention “The Place of the Fear”. Lara understands that she has just reached Xibalba, the Mayan underworld.

Jörmungandr, the Midgard serpent:

Get back on your motorbike and follow the hallway. Build up some speed to drive over two pits and brake before the third. You'll see that the two ramps are down. Leave the motorbike behind and locate the two horizontal poles on the left wall. Jump to grab the first one and perform a wall jump to reach the upper one. Turn around and locate a flat edge on the pillar.

Swing around the pole (or stand on it) and jump forward to grab the ledge. A part of the pillar lowers and the ramps will elevate. Three huge spiders scramble from the pits to attack. Kill them. But, be careful, since they can charge and climb on the walls. Now go back to the motorbike and drive over the third pit.

Enter a huge square room with a central stone structure. Kill two giant spiders and three more spiders running toward Lara. Make note of the four colored seals in the ground. Look at the statues. You'll notice that two of them are missing their scepter. One is on the ground, close to its statue. The second is upstairs, behind the statue facing the white seal. Grab it and insert it in the hand of the last statue.

A brief cutscene shows the central seal elevating and four statues rotating their scepter.

Grab the horizontal scepters and rotate the four statues. This opens four gates giving you access to four rooms. Take the stairs behind the statue of the blue seal and go up.

Rattling House Key:

The biggest challenge in this room is to pass the boulders without dying! Use the sprint command to reach the pedestal and pick up the Rattling House key. Don’t rush back to the central hall just yet, since three giant spiders will attack you. Let the boulders do the dirty work and smash them for you. Now locate a rock with a golden ring above the boulders. Use your grapple to catch it and pull it as close as you can, between the first two boulders. Climb on the rock and perform a wall jump between the first two boulders to reach the top. Carefully head to the exit. Drop down from the last boulder and make your way back to the central hall.

Take care of a giant spider and two more small spiders attacking you. Near the doorway, find a small beam on the left. Vault on it and traverse it. Face the narrow ledge going around the pillar and jump onto it. Traverse to the right until you face a vertical pole. Jump forward to grab it and look left. Locate a climbable wall, turn around the pillar and jump backwards to reach it. Climb down and right until you’re back to a horizontal pole. Jump to catch it, stand on it and jump forward to reach the next pole. Stand on this one as well and jump forward to catch the ledge.

Shimmy to the right end, then turn around to locate a vertical pole behind. Jump to catch it and climb up a bit. Jump again to reach the structure around the big pillar. Go around the pillar until you see a horizontal pole above this structure. Jump up to hang from it and traverse forward. Catch the next pole and drop down at the end. Follow the narrow ledge around the pillar until you are facing a small broken beam. Vault onto it, then jump toward the doorway and enter the second room.

Flame House:

This particular room can be a bit frustrating since Lara can easily lose her grip as soon as she’s even touched by a flame. You have to be fast and very precise. To start out, go forward and locate the first horizontal fire under a pole. Locate the empty space behind it. Wait until the first row of fires are off then head to the small space and jump up to grab the pole. Stand on this pole but do not move for now. Locate the second horizontal fire and locate the pole above it. Wait until both that fire and the one under your pole are off and jump quickly to that pole.

As soon as you grab it, jump up to catch the upper pole. From this small pole, locate the next pole in front of you and wait until the fire between those two is off. Now jump forward and traverse the pole to the right. Grab the next pole, head right and drop down twice to reach the ground. Pick up the "Flame House" key then make your way back to the central room.

Dispatch the four spiders that attack and find the platform with four parallel vertical poles. Behind them, there’s a wall with a small alcove where you can perform a wall jump. Pull up to the narrow ledge and jump forward to reach the climbable wall. Head up and to the left until you reach the edge and perform a jump to the right to reach the other wall. Head right and turn around the corner, then climb to the right and jump right to grab the vertical pole. Climb up and perch on this pole, then face the next one and jump to grab it. Climb up a bit and jump to reach the third pole. Climb down a little, but be careful with the spikes! They will topple Lara if she touches them.

Locate a small pole behind this one and jump to land on it. Jump from the top of the pole to grab the narrow ledge around the pillar and shimmy right until you see a horizontal pole. Jump up to grab it and traverse it forward. Grab the next pole and traverse it, then drop down on the narrow ledge. Locate a small broken beam on the right and jump from the ledge to land on it. Now perform a long jump to access the next doorway.

Razor House:

This room is alot easier, but there is one moment which can prove a little tricky. Wait until the first row of spikes is retracted then walk forward. The tricky moment will start, so quickly crawl before the giant moving blade reaches you. Wait until the blades have stopped, then go to the right and walk to pass the second row of spikes. There’s a second moment, during which you have to immediately crawl so the giant blades won’t reach you. Once they stop moving, stand up and move toward the third row of spikes. Wait until they retract and jump forward to pass. Collect the "Razor House" key. Head left to the wall and grab the edge of a block. Jump up and move to the left. At the end, jump left to land on top of the blade and drop down to the ground. You can traverse the place peacefully, as the blades won’t move anymore.

Make your way back to the central room and shoot/kill a giant spider (along with twelve other spiders). See the golden ring on a platform above the room? Use your grapple to catch it. Climb up the rope and step onto the platform. Locate a block and a slope on the left. Vault onto the rock and slide down the slope. Jump forward at the end to reach the platform with the doorway and head inside the last room.

Jaguar House:

Easy, crawl under the rocks and pick up the Jaguar House key. Return to the central room and kill three giant spiders and a small spider. Now place the four keys in the central structure. Dispense with the giant spider that attacks once you’ve put the white seal in place. This will unlock the four movable statues. Push those four statues against the central structure. Next, locate the two pressure plates near the entrance. Park your motorbike on one and stand on the other. A mechanism will elevate the central structure, revealing an entrance to the underground.

Three more giant spiders are running around. You know what to do. Then hop back on the motorbike. Drive into the tunnel and follow its path. Build up a little speed and drive up the ramp. Go forward until you reach a pile of collapsed blocks.

A short cutscene here will show the remnants of a skeleton and a jaguar head on the floor. Gather up the jaguar head and climb up the blocks. Continue forward.

In this next cutscene, Lara comes upon some engravings that illustrate Jörmungandr and the final battle of Ragnarök.

Now head left toward the rooms that are shining with blue light.

Another cutscene begins: Lara enters a large hall with a pool of beautiful blue water falling from the mouth of three monumental snakes. The serpents represent Jörmungandr, the Midgard snake. She believes that this site, along with the Mediterranean temple and the Norse remnants in Thailand, probably inspired the mythological legends about the underworld, ...... maybe because of their common point. They were all guarded by undead creatures!!

Take care not to touch the water, as it’s poisonous and will kill Lara instantly. Kill a tiger thrall running to attack, then head right and run around the pool. Finish a Mayan "thrall" and continue forward. Jump over a small pit and walk carefully, since six Mayan thralls are about to attack. Follow the corridor until you reach the head of the first snake. Vault on the block on the right of the pillar supporting the head and jump forward to catch the horizontal pole. This will close the mouth of the snake and make the water lower. Jump back from the rock you came from and head to the left. Vault on the rocks and climb up until you reach the ledge, then shimmy all the way to the left end. Jump backward to reach the doorway. Look for a small ledge to the right. Hang from the edge and drop down twice, then shimmy left. Now jump left to reach the next pillar.

Move quickly here as some of the ledges will collapse. Shimmy to the right end and drop down twice. Jump right to the other pillar and quickly shimmy to the right before it collapses. Turn around the pillar and jump to the right at the end. Shimmy right and jump right to finally land on a steady rock. Vault onto the rocks and jump up to grab the beam. Traverse it and jump to land on the next one. Traverse this one and drop down on the other side.

Now follow the corridor and kill four more Mayan thralls. Grab the ledge on the right and pull up. Head to the right, hugging the wall and turn the corner. Between the two pillars, have Lara perform another wall jump and grab the upper ledge. Shimmy left and look behind to locate a beam. Jump on it and traverse the beam, then drop down on the other side.

Vault onto the rock and spot the golden ring high above you. Launch the grapple to catch it and swing. Make sure to build up some speed before jumping, for this is a long jump. On the other side, turn around and locate a golden ring on Thor’s left arm. Grapple it and pull the rope to make the arm rotate, .... this conveniently presents a ledge for you. Jump to grab it and shimmy left. At the end, look behind to locate another ledge on the pillar and jump to grab it. Then turn around the corner and land on the platform. Dispatch with four Mayan thralls and vault onto the rock nearby the second snake head. Grab the ledge on the left, then jump up and shimmy right. Now jump to the right to grab the horizontal pole and close the mouth of the snake. The poisonous water is now at its minimal height.

From the pole, locate the small ledge under the snake head. Hang from the block’s edge and shimmy to the right. Drop down to catch the lower ledge and drop down again to land on the small platform. Jump towards the central platform. Get rid of two Mayan thralls that run toward you. Grapple the golden ring on the middle pillar and rotate it clockwise. Thor’s head will straighten up and his second hand will move, granting the access to the small chamber into his chest. See the small ledge on the lower pillar? Grab it, then jump up to reach the top. Now jump toward the stairs on Thor’s chest. Head up the stairs.

In another cutscene, Lara enters the small chamber and tries to take Thor’s belt. While the ornaments turn to dust, a small glowing stone remains. When Lara grabs it and puts it on her own belt, the artifact creates a halo similar to that of the gauntlet.

The Land Of The Dead:

Get on the lowest pillar once again and grapple the ring under the snake head. Jump off and climb up quickly. As soon as the mouth is open, the poisonous water will start to rise again. Swing and reach the ledge under the snake head. Shimmy left and pull up on the block. Head right and find a few ledges on the wall. Grab the first one and make your way to the right until you reach the blocks. Jump up and traverse the first beam, then the second one and drop down on the other side. Head forward and locate a small ledge on the right. Grab it and jump left. Pull up and head right, hugging the wall.

When you're between the two pillars, perform a wall jump to climb up the space and grab the upper ledge. Shimmy to the right and vault onto the hammer. Look up. See the second golden ring? Launch the grapple to catch it and jump forward. Quickly climb up and swing in order to face the entrance of the room. You need to reach the ledges under the entrance platform. Swing two or three times, then jump before the water is too high. Jump up to get back to the entrance and head through the passage.

Head back to the motorbike and return to "Xibalba". You'll find your way blocked by some rocks (that you once used as a ramp). Fortunately, there’s a runic pillar among them. Just pull the pillar as far as you can and go back to the motorbike. Drive to Xibalba and kill three giant spiders running at you. Now head to the tunnel where you came from. Raise the ramps thanks to the switch, as you did earlier. Take care of the three giant spiders that come out of the pit. Drive back to the room with two statues and a lever. Place the jaguar head on the right statue and pull the lever. This opens the first gate of the monument. Drive through the doorway as fast as possible to make it over the pit.

In the final cut scene of the level, Lara asks Zip if he was able to finally locate where Richard Croft believed that Thor’s Hammer could be found. Zip quickly sends the coordinates to Lara’s PDA.

Level 6: Jan Mayen Island

Cutscene: We see Lara on a polar island talking to Zip on her headset. He says that he's finally located where Amanda may have taken Natla. Rutland had a similar boat, anchored near coastal Thailand. Lara says thanks and tells him to get some rest.

Head down the hallway until you come to a huge door. Leave the motorbike and grab the door with the gauntlet. Move to the right to make the panel slide.

In a brief cut scene, Lara watches the high pit and the ramp that goes all the way to the bottom.

Climb back on your bike and start driving along the ramp. Careful of the crevices in the floor! Once your motorbike heads through one of them, you'll fall to your death ..... so drive carefully. On your way down, eliminate four thralls.

Another cutscene: Upon reaching the door, the scene starts. The engraved door mentions the “Gate of the Dead”, which Lara identifies as "Valhalla", the legendary place where fallen warriors were prepared for Ragnarök, the apocalypse.

Kill three thralls that come running at you. Find three empty recesses on the base of the tower you see. Grab the three stones on the ground and place them into their niches. This triggers a mechanism and the tower will start rotating. Run around the tower until one of the engraved stones begins glowing. Take note of the engravings on the floor. Grab the wall and turn it around until it faces the right plate on the ground. A ray of light falls from the ceiling in front of the door.

Let go of the wall and go left until you see a ledge on the tower. Jump up to grab it. Now jump up to grab the upper ledge and jump up again to catch a horizontal pole. Stand on the pole and jump up to reach an upper ledge. Pull up to stand on this ledge and jump up to hang from a horizontal pole. Then stand up on the pole and walk toward the circular platform. Vault on it and turn around the tower until you locate a stone glowing with blue light. Move it until it faces the corresponding engraving in the ground. A second ray of light will now fall from the ceiling. Grab the ledge on the left and jump up three times.

From this ledge, shimmy to the left and jump left to reach a horizontal pole. Stand on the pole and find rotating poles above you. Jump up to grab one of them and stand up on it. Walk toward the tower and grab the ledge. Jump up to reach an upper one, and jump up yet again to hang from a horizontal pole. Stand on the pole, walk toward the tower and vault onto the platform. Go along the platform until you come to a stone glowing with blue light. Collect it and turn it around until it faces the corresponding engraving on the ground.

Be careful during the last part of the ascension! Steam spews from the tower. If Lara touches the steam, she'll lose her grip and fall. So take care, but be fast. Grab the first ledge near the circular platform and jump up twice. Stand on this ledge and find the steam pipes. Jump up to catch a horizontal pole and stand on it, then jump up immediately to stand on a narrow ledge.

Immediately jump up to stand on a horizontal pole, jump up to stand on the upper ledge. Make certain that the next pole you’re going to grab will give you some time before the steam spurts again. Then jump up, stand on the pole and vault on the circular platform. As done before, locate the movable stone and grab it. Place it on the right engraving.A fourth ray will fall from the ceiling and the gate will then unlock.

"Valhalla"

Head back to the gate and open it. Jump on your motorbike and enter the dark corridor. Kill the three bats flying to you as well as a Viking thrall. Turn right at the intersection and follow the hallway to the next crossroad. Get rid of two Viking thralls coming at you. Don't take the ramp. Instead, turn right, then left and finish off two more Viking thralls that attack Lara. Take the small ramps and turn left at the next intersection. Drive up the ramps and eliminate the two Viking thralls that are attacking. At the intersection, look right and find a passage above a block. Leave the motorbike and dispatch the Viking thrall standing there.

Next, perform a wall jump between the wall and the high platform you see on the right. Jump to reach the passage and head forward. Kill another Viking thrall that is running at you. Head to the snowy bridge ahead.

A short cutscene shows three hammers beginning to swing. One of the hammers breaks the bridge and smashes a Viking thrall also.

Now it gets exciting! The platform where Lara is standing begins to collapse. Jump forward to grab the brown ledge around the pillar. Quickly shimmy to the left until you reach the end, then jump to the left. Lara will miss the ledge on the next pillar, but she will grab a horizontal pole. But move quickly to the left, because the pole will break. Slide down the slope and perform a jump at the end to land on the beam.Traverse the beam and jump to grab the ledge.

Shimmy to the right, turn around the corners and drop down on the next beam. Traverse this beam and take a moment to deal with a giant spider running on the next pillar. Next, grab the ledge of the pillar and pull up. Turn around. Jump to the right to pass the broken part and turn around the next corner. Be sure you’re facing the other pillar and perform a wall jump to get to the top.

Locate the ledge running on the higher pillar, but first you have to shoot the giant spider you see running around. Now jump to grab that ledge and shimmy to the left. Drop down twice and pull up to stand on the narrow ledge. Jump left to reach the next one and drop down on the beam. Shoot a giant spider behind you.

Traverse the beam and jump up to grab the ledge. Shimmy left and drop on the next beam. Traverse the beam and jump forward to land on a small pedestal. Jump again to grab a ledge and pull up. Move to the left. When you’re standing between the two pillars, perform a wall jump to reach the top.

Now turn right and vault on the platform. Head inside the tunnel on the left. Dispense with two giant spiders and follow the tunnel. In this room, there are two counterweights moving up and down. Grab the metallic ledge on one of them and jump up to grab the upper one. Look behind you. There are four horizontal poles that are rotating. Jump backward to grab one of them and stand up. When you’re on top, jump up to grab one of the lateral chains. Move forward until you reach the platform, then drop down and head into the corridor.

Take care with the turning wheels, as they'll crush Lara!. Jump forward to grab the horizontal pole. Swing and jump to reach the next one and repeat this operation twice. On the last pole, wait until the hammer comes close then jump forward to grab its ledge. Shimmy to the right on the side of the hammer. Four bats will attack you. Kill them and look to the right. When the hammer comes close to the right wall, you'll see three ledges to the right. Jump to reach them and shimmy to the right end.

Once there, jump to the right and stand on the immobile hammer. Drop down into the passage and go forward. Again, be careful with the turning wheels. Jump over the first two, then crawl to avoid the running wheels. Head forward and jump over the last two wheels. On the platform, dispense with two bats and look down. Toss a grenade to get rid of a giant spider.

The mechanism is locked, and you will need the hammer to swing in order to reach the other side of the room. Grab the chain and traverse it. In the middle of the room, drop down to grab a horizontal pole. Look at the counterweights. One of them is up! Swing around the pole and jump to grab the metallic ledge around the counterweight. It will lower the stone and you'll reach the ground. Kill the two giant spiders running toward you.

On the right, locate a rock blocking the mechanism. Pull it to free the cog. The hammer starts moving again. Pull the rock near one of the counterweights. Vault on the rock, grab the ledge on the counterweight and wait until it raises. Then jump to grab one of the horizontal poles and stand up. Jump to grab the chain and traverse the room to the platform. Head back to the hammer while avoiding the wheels.

Notice that the second group of wheels are now moving back and forth so be careful when you jump over the first two. At the end, grab the horizontal pole and stand on it. Wait until the hammer comes close and jump onto it. Shimmy to the right and, as done before, jump right when the hammer comes close to the wall. Grab the ledge and shimmy left then jump left to reach a corridor.

Shoot the six bats that you see and locate a golden ring on the ceiling. Use your grapple to catch it and rappel down as far as you possible. Locate the ledge on the left. You have to perform a wall run and jump at the end to reach it. Drop down to grab the lower ledge. Jump backward and land on the platform. Deal with another giant spider and head toward the main room.

Locate a slope in front of your platform. Jump onto it and slide down. Land on a beam and traverse it. At the end, jump up and pull up to step on a narrow ledge. Move to the left, turn around the corner and jump onto the lower pillar. Jump forward to perch on a small pedestal and jump again to land on the next one. Then jump up and pull up on the ledge. Move to the right and turn around the corner. Perform a wall jump between the two pillars to reach the top. Dispense with a Viking thrall that attacks. Locate a golden ring on the ceiling and perform a wall run to reach the small platform on the right. Turn right and vault onto the next platform. Get rid of the giant spider and enter the tunnel.

Cutscene: Lara finds a gigantic corpse on the ground. A yeti. It's probably the creature that gave birth to the Frost Giants in the ancient Norse mythology. But what she assumed to be only a corpse begins to move! Soon she’s facing a very angry yeti thrall.

Shoot the four bats you see flying around. Jump around so the yeti thrall won’t smash Lara in a corner. Shoot at the creature until it finally collapses. Now dispense with it as you did with other thralls.

To climb up into the room, perform a wall jump between one of the counterweights and the wall. Grab the metallic ledge of the counterweight. Jump backward and grab one of the horizontal poles. Stand on it and jump up to grab one of the chains. Traverse the room. Remember to use the "Interact" button to make Lara move faster.

Jump over the first couple of wheels, then grab the horizontal pole above the next three wheels. Be very careful not to jump up or to fall on the wheels. Just jump forward from the pole. Grab the next pole, swing and jump to a higher one. Stand on it and wait until the hammer comes close. Jump forward to grab it. Cling to the hammer while it swings and drop down on the (platform) central bridge. Sprint across before the bridge collapses and reach the stairs.

Cutscene: Lara finally discovers Thor’s hammer. She takes it and frowns angrily. It’s time to pay Natla a little visit!

Level 7: Andaman Sea

Lara finds herself on a boat in the middle of a storm. The boat is the same as the one you explored in Thailand. (First, make sure that you select the Hammer as your default weapon. You have no health at this point, but you do have Thor's hammer) The aim here is to make your way across the deck, killing goons until you reach an entrance at the far end of the boat.

Go down the stairs to the lower deck and kill thirteen mercenaries. Run toward the lookout post and locate the two red containers stacked up. Use the wall jump to climb the space to the top and climb up the gray containers. Jump to the second deck and follow the right passage. With the hammer, kill two mercenaries in the passage and two other mercenaries near the helicopter pad.

Traverse the helicopter pad and head downstairs to the second pad. Kill two mercenaries on the stairs, then head to the helicopters. Three mercenaries will attack, so take them down and follow the stairs to reach the lower deck. Head to the stern of the boat. Three mercenaries are guarding the entrance, so be careful before going through the doorway.

Follow the stairway. Traverse the first room with lockers and head forward. Go down the stairs. An automatic door opens, giving access to a room with several monitors. Two mercenaries burst in. Kill them and follow the corridor. Take care of the two mercenaries hidden behind the crates in the hallway.

Two more mercenaries are coming via the stairs. Take them down and head forward. In the next passage, turn left and get rid of one more mercenary. Follow the passage and turn left. Go up the stairs.

Cutscene: Lara heads back to Natla’s cage. The Atlantean queen announces that having Thor’s hammer, belt and gauntlets isn’t enough to open the gate of Helheim. There’s an ancient ritual to perform at the same time. Natla tells Lara that she knows the ritual. When Lara brandishes the hammer to break the cage, she’s stopped by Amanda. But as the two former friends prepare to fight, Lara’s doppelganger steps in and knocks out Amanda. Lara frees Natla, who escapes flying, giving her the coordinates of the actual Helheim location.

Level 8: Arctic Sea

Dive into the icy waters of the Arctic Sea. Swim forward until you see a large temple with a path and some statues (guardians we imagine). This is the entrance to Helheim. Two problems will prevent you from entering the temple at this point. The first is the swords of the statues blocking the big chains. You'll need to pull the lever behind the head of each statue for them to lift the swords. Unfortunately, the very last one in the right row is broken. Locate the two missing cogs around the statue. They're big, but they're one of the items that Thor's gauntlets render weightless when they're touched. Put them in the machinery of the statue and swim up to pull the lever.

Once you've pulled the levers for all the statues, you then need to find the four missing blocks of the mechanism. They are next to the temple. One of them is next to the mechanism to the left. The other three are inside two towers. Two of them in the tower to the left and the last one in the tower to the right.

After you locate all four blocks, place them in the mechanism. Now swim to the lever placed between them. Activate the lever and a quick flyby will show you the big door opening your way to the temple. Enter the temple and continue swimming through the large corridors. There's no different route here, only some side rooms with small treasures. Once you get to the surface area, there is a brief scene showing Natla opening the walls, which shows the closed gate to Helheim. "Yggdrasil"

You'll need to get to the other side of the hall here. The bottom level is full of Thralls, so try to kill them from where you are with Thor's hammer (to make your life a little easier). The small Thralls die with only one shot. The giant Thralls, however, need more damage to die so be sure to shoot them several (four or five) times.

After dispensing with all of them, jump over to a vertical pole to the right, ahead. Slide down to the ground. Now jump onto a small vertical pole in the pool and then to the wall on the right. Jump from the wall to the vertical pole ahead, climb to the top of the pole and jump to the platform. Safety drop to the ground and jump to the horizontal pole to the left. Then jump to the wall in front of the pole and then to the platform on the right.

A cutscene shows Lara using Thor's Hammer to open the gates to Helheim.

You now need to run through the large corridors (killing Thralls along the way). Using Thor's Hammer will help you to survive! Not using it seems to be an impossible task. You'll see a silhouette in the last corridor, looking down a pit. Continue straight ahead.

A scene shows Lara walking along in the direction of the person she saw standing there. She realizes it's her mother! Amelia then turns around to show her half-human, half -thralls. Lara refuses to believe it's her mother and tells herself her mother had died a very long time ago. This can't be possible! Lara says "You're not my mother". She shoots the Thrall that falls in the pool of Eitr. Natla then shows up, talking about how she lived more than the entire civilization. She never experienced such a delicious irony! Natla tells Lara that she was the one that killed her father.

Angry, Lara stands up and threatens Natla with the hammer. The Doppelganger holds Lara, and Natla flies away again as she tells the Doppelganger to finish Lara off. Lara battles the Doppelganger, .... but it's too strong. When Lara seems to have no way out of the situation, Amanda suddenly shows up. She throws the Doppelganger into the pool of Eitr with the power of her necklace. Amanda then tells Lara that she wanted to let it kill her, but the the only way to stop Natla is by using Thor's Hammer.

The camera now changes perspective and shows a large group of giant Thralls coming. Amanda says that she'll take care of them. There's only one way to go now, continue ahead until you reach a huge room with a large tower in the center. Head in the direction of that tower.

Cutscene: Lara tells Natla to stop it. Natla explains the truth behind the "Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent". The camera changes again and shows the mechanism of the tower. It activates four pillars, one of them collapses. The camera changes yet again, this time showing a very angry Natla hurling fireballs at Lara.

"Out Of Time" You'll be faced by a large central column with fixed and rotating platforms on three separate floors. The objective here is to unplug the three remaining pillars. Look at them now so you know what you’re working with. Go around the circular path to get to the pillars. Two of them can be unplugged on the first floor, but one of them can only be unplugged on the second floor. Take care with the giant Thralls! A constantly flying Natla that will also be hurling fireballs at you, so watch out.

When you're climbing, Natla will sometimes appear behind you and attack. The game will slow down, so you can jump out of harm 's way. Use the big blocks flying in circles around the tower to go from one place to another (once you've destroyed the first buttress it will knock the floating platforms down to make them more accessible). Unplugging the pillars is actually a rather simple task. They're made of the same type of stone that are related to Thor's Gauntlets. You just need to push them.

Once you've unplugged all the pillars, you'll need to destroy the small blue block on the top of each pillar. The top of one of the pillars is inaccessible, ... until you destroy the other two. The top of the first pillar is on the second floor. Climb the pillar and press "Interaction" to destroy the small blue block with The Hammer. In the second floor, locate a wall with a golden ring on it. Now use the grapple and go up as far as possible,. Jump onto the ledge to the right to get on the third floor. Make your way to the top of the second pillar, in the third floor. Repeat the action you did with first pillar.

A brief scene shows Amanda running away from the Thralls and falling. Natla hurls another fireball at her. This throws Amanda into the air. Amanda hits the ground and passes out. The camera the changes perspective, showing two giant Thralls roaring. It looks like they are about to attack Amanda (don't worry, she's fine).

More blocks flying around the tower, so use them to reach the ledges on top. Time it until the bridge of the last pillar gets close enough and drop off the ledge to the bridge below. Lara will then slide to the top of the last pillar. Now destroy the final blue block! End game, ..... for some of us.
